ASHI Announces Coaching Staff for USA Women’s National Ball Hockey Under-20 Team

Winchendon, Mass. – ASHI Team USA Women’s Division and Junior Division announced today the coaching staff for the USA Women’s National Under-20 team that will compete at the 2018 ISBHF World Juniors Ball Hockey Championship June 28-July 1 in Prerov, Czech Republic.

Larry Furman (Dorchester, MA), head coach of the Amazeballz Women’s B tournament team and the Boston Saints has been named head coach. He will be joined behind the bench by Megan Habina (Blackwood, NJ) and Jackie Spiegel (Brooklyn, NY).

Furman will be making his coaching debut for Team USA. He has been coaching and playing hockey in Massachusetts for more than 30 years. At Hudson Youth Dek Hockey Furman has coached at every level, exclusively the penguin level since 2013 when he was named the co-coach of the travel team. In 2015 Furman became head coach of the HYDH penguin division tournament team, the Boston Saints tournament team and the Amazeballz. At the helm of the Boston Saints, the program won the US Nationals and the Super Bowl Bye Week Tournament in 2016 and 2017.

Habina, who has been involved with Team USA for more than six years will be making her coaching debut for Team USA. A member of the Women’s National Team in 2013 and 2015, she was named to the All-Star team and two years later was named the Best Defensewoman at the ISBHF World Championships in Zug, SUI. Nationally, Habina was named the 2010 Most Valuable Defensewoman and the 2014 Most Valuable Forward at Spring Classic.

Spiegel will be representing the U.S. as a coach for the second time. She served as an assistant coach at the 2016 World Masters Championship with Team Red. In 2014, she was a member of Team Red at the World Masters Championship held in Tampa Bay, FL. Spiegel was a youth ice hockey assistant coach in Connecticut and is currently a youth ice hockey coach in New York City for multiple programs.
