USA Women’s National Team Competes at North American Ball Hockey Championships

WINCHENDON, Mass. – Members of ASHI’s USA Women’s National Team participated at the 2017 North American Ball Hockey Championship this past weekend in Feasterville-Trevose and Philadelphia, PA. In preparation for the 2017 ISBHF World Senior and Women’s Ball Hockey Championship that will be held June 3-10 in Pardubice, Czech Republic, members of the team competed in the Women’s A and Women’s B Divisions.

In the Women’s A Division, six members of the squad played on the championship team Atlantic Crush: Eileen Meslar (Chicago Ridge, IL), Danielle Strohmier (Oak Lawn, IL), Rebecca Dobson (Oreland, PA), Kayla McCuean (Pittsburgh, PA) and Sara Reddington (Boston, MA). Dobson captured the Most Valuable Player award in the Women’s A Division. Meslar and Strohmier also played on the Women’s B Division winning team, the Chicago Lady Cobras, with Meslar winning Most Valuable Defenseman.

During the weekend of March 10-12, players participated in the North American Ball Hockey Co-Ed Championships. Taylor Steadman (Hartford, VT) and Lindsey Bitler (Reading, PA) captured the Co-Ed A Division Championship with DC Stars and Stripes. Steadman was named Most Valuable Female in the Co-Ed A division.

Run by Cool Hockey Events, the tournament spans two weekends in March. Over 90 teams from across Canada and the United States compete in the Men’s, Women’s and Co-Ed divisions.

ASHI’s USA Women’s National Team is preparing for the 2017 ISBHF World Senior and Women’s Ball Hockey Championship that will be held June 3-10 in Pardubice, CZE. The team will be participating in, and holding their final camp at, the UWBHF’s Springfest in Dracut, MA April 28-30.

ASHI’s Women’s Division general manager is Jason Kelly (Media, PA). Gwen Ranquist-Lemieux (Hamilton, ON), who served as head coach from 2006-07, returns behind the bench in 2017. She will be joined by assistant coaches Dorene Sheets (Vancouver, BC), Jason Glista (Winthrop, MA), and goalie coach Thomas Bricklemyer (Philadelphia, PA).
