WINCHENDON, Mass. – ASHI and Women’s Division General Manager Jason Kelly would like to announce that in preparation for the 2017 ISBHF World Senior Mens and Womens Ball Hockey Championships, the ASHI Women’s Division will be sending two teams to the 2016 Ballhockey.com World Outdoor Ball Hockey Championships. The teams are comprised of members of the Women’s program along with future team prospects, and will compete Sept. 23-25 in Barrie, ON in the Women’s A/B Division.

The teams are named after the last two Women’s A Division Champions at the North American Ball Hockey Championships – U.S.A. Happy Endings and U.S.A. Girls on Top.  Each will contain some of the top talent from across the United States, and will also have members of the 2015 USA Womens team that competed at the ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championship held in Zug, Switzerland.  Several players on the teams are former NCAA Div. I and II athletes.

Girls on Top will feature two inaugural members of the New York Riveters of the NWHL, Cherie Stewart (Fountain Valley, CA) and Amber Moore (Sunnyvale, CA).  Roxanne Gaudiel (Sarasota, FL), who played for the Quebec Avalanche of the original NWHL, will also be on the team. Additional players include Eileen Meslar (Chicago, IL) and Danielle Strohmier (Oak Lawn, IL) who played for Team USA in Switzerland, and Haley Frade (New Bedford, MA), Nikki Gnozzio (Denville, New Jersey) and Sara Reddington (Boston, MA), who played on women’s collegiate varsity ice hockey or field hockey teams.

Happy Endings will be anchored by 2015 Team USA goaltender, and two-time Team USA Master’s Silver medalist Alessandra Glista (Boston, MA). The team will also showcase 2015 Team USA Master’s Silver medalist and tournament MVP Liane Dixon (Oak Bluff, MA) and 15-year-old phenom Stefanie Caban (Leominster, MA). Members of the 2015 team – Eleni Aidonidis (Boston, MA), Amber Cornwall (Ashburn, MA), Karen Levin (Evanston, IL) and Blake Blomdahl (Somers Point, NJ) and Tiffany Pokora (Flint, MI) – will anchor the team alongside newcomers Erica Simpson (Concord, NH) and Becky Dobson (Doylestown, PA), Katelyn Landry (Houston, TX), Lauren Gifford (Manchester, NH) and Lindsay Wilde (Boston, MA) who all bring collegiate varsity field or ice hockey experience.

The tournament marks the return of Head Coach Gwen Ranquist-Lemieux (Hamilton, ON) behind the Team USA bench. Ranquist-Lemieux led Team USA from 2006-07. Assistant coaches Dorene Sheets (Vancouver, BC), Jason Glista (Media, PA), and goalie coach Thomas Bricklemyer (Philadelphia, PA) will join Ranquist-Lemieux on the bench . Happy Endings first game will be 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, and Girls on Top begins play at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The ASHI Women’s Team USA will be competing in the 2017 ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championship June 1-11 in Pardubice, CZE. For more information on the program, please contact Dave Reaser (dreaser@ashihockey.org).
