Junior Team USA U18 Head Coach Tony Fischetti led members of the Junior National Teams to a Midwest Regional Championship this past weekend…

Tony Fischetti of Penn Hills, PA, was recently chosen as coach of the U18 National Team traveling to Bratislava, Slovakia this June for the ISBHF Junior World Championships. In an attempt to prepare these young men in his area, from both U20 and U18 teams, he entered a team into one of the countries largest ball hockey tournaments.

The Penn Hills team entered into Street Hockey USA’s, Midwest Regional in Mount Pleasant PA, hosted by Men’s Team Assistant Coach, Mark Madden. With over 20 teams traveling from all over the Northeast and Midwest to compete, it served as a great test and stepping stone for all players traveling to Slovakia.

Penn Hills was led by U20 players Vinnie Tumminello, Kevin Persichettie and goalie Dan Ujcic. Also representing Penn Hills was Jim Kiesel, Eddie McDonough, Austin Avampato and goalie Tyler Fischetti of the U18 National Team.

This team was comprised of mainly freshmen aged players, and went 5-1-0 throughout the entire tournament. In quarterfinal action, they topped the Buffalo City Hawks 4-1. After a tough round robin loss to Lancaster, Penn Hills was able to seek revenge and beat them 5-3 propelling them into the finals. In the finals, Penn Hills beat Cranberry Dek Hockey 2-0, with Dan Ujcic (U20 goaltender) receiving the Finals MVP!

Coach Tony couldn’t have been happier with his teams effort in the tournament. We look forward to seeing these players grow and develop right on up until the World Junior Championships this coming June!
