North America’s largest Youth “A” Tournament is back for its 32nd consecutive year, the Midwest Regional. There are a handful of great Youth Tournaments every calendar year for our great sport of Ball Hockey, unfortunately only one remains where the best have to play the best and there are no High-end teams beating up on newcomers. The Midwest Regional is one of the 4 Tournaments that was the Original Dek Hockey “Cycle” for about 20 years. It was Bellmawr, Penn Hills, Leominster, and Niagara Falls (Mayer in Long Island was apart of this cycle early on as well). The primary 4 tournaments still exist. Bellmawr has a great event for “A” and “B” teams, as do the other fantastic Jersey organizations. Leominster still has the great “Dek” Hockey Nationals and has been joined by Mylec and their “Mylec Cup” up in the New England area. And Niagara Falls recently has made an impressive come back to the tournament circuit as well. Each tournament has “A” and “B” Divisions that allow for more competitive games on Sunday for more teams, and is inevitably great for the sport. What makes the Midwest Regional special, in my eyes, is that it is an […]
Growing and promoting the sport is a primary focus for us at ASHI and tonight our sport gets recognized on a national level by the NHL Network. The difference between ice hockey and ball hockey will be a topic in one of the segments tonight between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ET on the NHL Network’s NHL Now show. The show will also cover Team USA and its chances in the upcoming 2017 ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championship in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Tonight the show is hosted by E.J. Hradek, Michelle McMahon and Jamison Coyle. What’s incredible about this is the diligence of one of our own to make this happen. Dan Coldwell of the MLB/NHL Network has wanted to do this for years. Now that the sport is growing and more organized he felt the timing was right. As Coordinating Producer he was able to get the show topic approved and aired. This is tremendous for the sport and a very special thank you goes out to Dan for his efforts. Who is Dan Coldwell? Dan has won 8 Sports Emmy Awards, 3 with ESPN and 5 with the MLB Network. He grew up near Phoenixville, PA. Graduating from Temple University […]

Sheffield, England – The United States Junior U16 Ball Hockey Team USA defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 to capture their 1st ever medal during their 1st ever World Ball Hockey Championships. The 2016 U16 squad was the first ever at that age group for the United States, and they finished the tournament on a very high note with their victory. The game was very close with the USA jumping out to an early 1 goal lead just 16 seconds into the contest as Assistant Captain Anthony Washart took a centering pass from fellow Assistant Captain Jordan Albright to make it 1-0. Albright made a great move to get separation from the defender in Gretzky’s office and found Washart who made quick work of the Czech goaltender. The game remained 1-0 until just under 5 minutes left in the 3rd when the Czechs finally managed to solve Robert Snyder in net for USA who was stellar throughout the tournament. The Czechs got a clean draw and their sniper beat Snyder far post off the one timer. But the USA was not to be denied as Evan Simonetti buried the game winner with 2:17 remaining in the game, finding an almost empty […]
