ASHI Announces Formation of USA Women’s National Ball Hockey Under-18 Team
Winchendon, Mass. – Following the U.S. Women’s National Ball Hockey Team’s historic run at the 2017 ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championships that ended with the program’s first-ever medal, Women’s Division General Manager Jason Kelly and Junior Division General Manager Scott Tarzy are proud to announce the creation of the U.S. Women’s National Ball Hockey Under-18 team.
“Youth ball hockey in the United States is growing at a rapid rate,” noted Tarzy. “We have seen an increase not only in the number of clubs participating in tournaments but also an increase in the level of play. With more women and girls playing the sport, the time is right for the creation of this program. This is a giant step forward for women’s ball hockey in the United States.”
Added Kelly, “The creation of the Women’s Under-18 program has been on the horizon for ASHI for a few years. It will allow ASHI to build a foundation for the national team, strengthen recruitment and develop a training process for all levels in the women’s division. Through this program, it will allow us to expand our outreach and provide growth and possibilities for more women to play at the national level.”
Tryouts for the program will begin August 5-6 during the junior evaluation camp at the 422 Sportsplex in Pottstown, PA. All players born in 2000 or after are invited to attend. Please note, the ISBHF is reviewing the age grouping and may allow for players under-20 to compete as well.
